Among his many accomplishments, Gastman founded and co-published Swindle Magazine, which remains a cornerstone in graphic design today. He also co-authored The History of American Graffiti (along with 80 other books), produced the 2010 Academy Award-nominated film, Exit Through the Gift Shop, co-curated Art in the Streets (2011) at the MoCA in Los Angeles, and directed the SHOWTIME documentary Rolling Like Thunder in 2021, a plunge into the underground world of freight train graffiti culture.
