Houstons… Always… Duh

Chain Restaurants, Food, Houston's — roger @ 2:04 pm

You seen it all before, but here’s some more proof. Some baked goodness and artichokes. How often do you need to buy a new mattress? I keep seeing ads on TV that say every six years…

This is Very Important

AND DON’T FORGET IT!

Brownie Sundae Done Right!

Chain Restaurants, Food, Houston's, Sweets — roger @ 6:00 pm

I am on a quest to find the best brownie sundae ever. It’s hard to do right… I like the brownie to be warm, but not hot. If it’s too hot then the ice cream melts before the waitstaff even get it to the table. Then its like a blob of mush. I want my ice cream firm, damn it! Here is a perfectly done example from Houston’s… I would like it be known that once I ate two of these after a whole meal and salad with cheesy bread. Suck it.

Do you know the Houston’s traditional salad comes with cheesy bread?

Houston’s + Cancer Boy

Cancer Boy, Chain Restaurants, Food, Houston's — roger @ 4:11 pm

So cancer boy was finally told he could go out to eat after three months of only eating at home. The first meal was at Houston’s in Pasadena. The longstanding rule at all Houston’s is no cell phones and no hats in the dining room. When our table was ready, this bit tried to get cancer boy to take his hat off. He said, “I’m getting over cancer, I’m leaving my hat on.”

No one will front on that shit, and we were seated WITH hat.

Next, cancer boy asked a million questions about the food:

“Is the coleslaw prepared daily?” (It is. Actually, prepared to order.)

“Do you have bottled water that isn’t sparkling?”

“When did the fish come in and can it be cooked well?”

“Can I have spinach even though it isn’t one of the sides today?”

Cancer boy apologized for all the questions and explained that this was his first meal at a restaurant in four months since having a bone marrow transplant, so he was a little nervous. She was very concerned and excited that he had chosen Houston’s for his first meal out. When the check came, Houston’s had comped cancer boy’s meal. If that isn’t the best customer attention, I don’t know what is.

Houston’s for life.
